This week, I had the best job in the world, mixing and mingling with folks at the Laity Lodge retreat for artists and pastors ministering to artists. Makoto Fujimura, David Taylor, and Brian Moss led the retreat. But other folks were there too. Folks from Redeemer. Folks from Regent. Folks like Marcia Hinds and Troy Bronsink and Ramy Antoun. And L. L. Barkat and Sam Van Eman and Scott Calgaro, of course.
Today, I’m headed out to Laity Lodge again to get some time with Scot McKnight of Jesus Creed.
Some of us at the arts retreat watched the stars from the tennis courts one night. In the spirit of brevity that got me published in the new Spring 2009 issue of 32 Poems, I’m sharing the shortest poem I wrote this week, inspired by those stars.
Here is a good word:
Andromeda spins around Polaris,
chained in the sky
a low-res constellation
missing many pixels.

Sounds like a great time. I was intrigued by your link to Brian Moss. I wondered: "Is this the Brian Moss I'm familiar with … of 'Day Is Dying in the West' ? Indeed, it is.
He is an incredible person and a great fit for Laity Lodge in particular.
Good to be with you there, Marcus.
