I’m regretting what I posted this morning. Too whiny. This is not the person I want to be, you know?
I should have just linked to the article as something interesting, but NOOOOO I had to drop in my cynical two cents, and maybe a few extra pennies of self-pity.
Then I was reading this article called “A Just and Living Wage” in Baylor’s Christian Reflection on Global Wealth. It is a great, great article that begins with this thought:
Let us steer clear… of the notion that the “laws” of economics are, like gravity, unalterable. In truth, the economy is a purely human construct, its structure and operation influenced heavily by the values and attitudes people hold. Consequently, what is desirable need not be shackled by mere references to “economic reality.” Unlike gravity, values and attitudes change.
I’m tempted to remove this morning’s post, but I should let you all see my sicko, whiny side too. I guess.
Here’s the point. In a society that measures value in dollars and cents (among several measurements), it is a challenge to measure value in better ways.
And all of this from a guy who is living in one of the wealthiest nations in the history of the world. Sigh.
Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven. You know the spiele.
God help it be more than a spiele to me.
