Lately, L. L. Barkat and I have been pretty busy trying organize everything we know about social media for a presentation at Mt. Hermon. Yesterday, I presented some of what I’ve learned about social media to the San Antonio Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
I promised the AFP people to share the slideshow online. Here it is…
…via Slideshare. You can download the actual presentation from Slideshare if you like, or just view it here. You can also download the handout.
I welcome comments from all readers, of course, but I’d especially like to hear from folks who were at the AFP presentation last Thursday.
- What has you most excited?
- What is your organization doing with social media?
- What do you have questions about?
- AFP members, don’t forget to link to your blog or your organization’s website!
(Here’s how I ended up at AFP yesterday: My office partner is chapter president this year. When their speaker got sick, I stepped in to pinch hit. Pinch hitting is fun because everyone lowers their standards for you.)

Wow.
I can’t believe it! I’ve reduced you to one word!
Marcus is being humble. His presentation is one of the best we’ve had. He gave us such food for thought. I don’t think anyone walked away with the notion that they could continue to ignore the use of social media as an important tool for donor/prospect cultivation and marketing.
Thanks, Perri. You are always so encouraging! More and more, I think there will be a significant cost to organizations that ignore social media.
And we didn’t even get into the issue of email getting replaced by RSS.
Great stuff, Marcus. Well researched. Very nice presentation.
Cool, Marcus. Thanks for sharing all of that info.
Sounds like a great opportunity to spread the word. People are more open to the possibilities! Maybe you’ll get more chances to pinch-hit again!
Mary and spaghettipie, I’m glad you found it useful. The info doesn’t all stand on its own without me explaining it, but I figured why let that stop me?
Sally, I just do what I can to help demystify web 2.0. With all of the flashy promises out there, I try to be a voice of reason if I can.
