First, Road Trips
Yup. We’re off. We borrowed a van, scrimped for gas, and headed out for a tour of the south with stops in Galveston Island (aunt and uncle), Texas; New Orleans, Louisiana; Starkville (grandma), Mississippi; and Ruston (brother), Louisiana.
High gas prices, you say? Pshaw.
No piddly increase in the cost of gas can stop the tradition of American Road Trips!
Here’s the craziest part. I’m not taking a computer. No internet. No hyper-connectivity on my phone. Nada. Just me and the wife and the kids and the open road.
Update: First leg in Galveston went well. New Orleans is fun. A little over 18 in places we learned, but we plan to avoid all of that for the next two days.
Second, DragonLight
While I’m gone, I’m missing the Christian Science Fiction and Fantasy Blog Tour.
That’s right, I’ve joined up again. I missed it, frankly, but life was just too busy for awhile. Course, I won’t be commenting on other blogs this month, but I’ll do my best to catch up with folks when I get back.
They’ll be talking about DragonLight by Donita Paul. The story opens with two characters (engaged in good dialogue) talking about a “castle built by committee.” I haven’t read the book, but I have to say, that appeals to me.
Of course, it is #5 in the Dragon Keeper Series. So naturally, I’d have to go back to the beginning. Maybe my daughter and I should read it aloud after we finish Harry Potter #2.
I’d do my normal Page One Review for Donita, but I’m writing this late Friday night and we’re leaving early early tomorrow for Galveston. And I have some more work to do to help Chris Cree finish up the HighCallingBlogs.com relaunch. (It should be live now. Go check it out!)
Third, The List
Before I give the standard list of CSFF participants who read lots of science fiction and fantasy and Christian stuff, I wanted to draw attention to three newbies in the project:
- Sean Slagle at http://seanslaglebookmarkcafe.blogspot.com/
- Nissa at http://linalamont.blogspot.com
- Courtney at http://amomspeaks.com
Here’s the rest of ‘em. I’ve been missing some of you guys! It’s good to be back.

Read it, read the whole series beginning to end. It is completely worth the journey and adventure.
Definitely the kind of story you and your daughter can enjoy together.
And btw, I seem to have resurrected your old blog link when I added you to the list this month. So sorry. Hopefully everyone will find their way here.
All lists are now updated!

Mark,
I hear Matamoros is nice this time of year. Why not check out a border town?

Dearest Mr Goodyear:
I do not remember your e-mail address so I thought I’d send you this article via comment. It’s an interview with a religious scholar James Carse. The whole interview is great, and I’ve linked to the page where the story’s namesake “Religion is Poetry” comes from. I would like to get your feedback (perhaps…a BLOGPOST) about it.
PS – The link is available by clicking my name!
Good luck on your road trip, I’ve made a few of my own, but they usually involve purchasing goats. It’s amazing the strange looks you get when you have goats in the back of your truck….
I liked the ‘castle built by committee’ concept too, it explains a lot about how my own house and barn came into being….
Now I know why you have not reply my mails and why I have not been able to publish my recent posts in the highcallingblogs.com
Have a nice trip. I am missing you here anyway.
Hi Marcus
Just wondered if you would be interested in reading though my novel in the making – it can be found at http://www.spyjournal.biz/urban_space
A dear friend of mine goes to school in Starkville but I have never heard anyone mention it outside of that context. Sounds like a fun trip!
