Is My Family Great?

by Marcus on June 8, 2007

I let you decide, Dawud Miracle. At your prompting, here’s my photo album response to David Airey’s face behind the blog series, which I’ve reinterpreted slightly as the family behind the blog.

Goodyears at Oktoberfest Fredericksburg

My family in full fest garb at our Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Cap’n Lyle

Argghh! Cap’n Lyle strikes fear in the hearts of many.

Princess CJ

Princess CJ (dressed as a flower girl in her cousin’s wedding) would cause any pirate’s heart to melt.

Amy resting in Queens

Amy rests her feet in Queens at our best friends’ apartment. She’s as lovely and substantive as the Picasso behind her.

Bumblemonkey doesn’t bother to fight Pan

Halloween is a big deal at our house. Two years ago, Hook and Pan had a rare moment of familial love on my front porch.

Is that you… with… a … beard?

Yes, btw, your family is great.

I played Jesus in the Christmas pageant that year. So I tried to grow a beard. I had just started trying at this point.

Let’s hope the Son of God was better with facial hair than me–since he created it.

Hi Mark

My vote is that your family is better than great. Your kids are beautiful. And it’s lovely to meet your wife. I’m guessing my wife would love it if I described her as substantive.

Hey, thanks for sharing your lovely family. And thanks for answering the tag.

Marcus

You are a blessed man!

Great family – beautiful kids, loving wife and the grace of God upon your life. Priceless.

You all are kind. I guess substantive may not have been the best choice of compliments–but I meant it in a spiritual and intellectual sense rather than a physical one.

I’m just going to keep digging this hole…

So cute, they are! Thanks for sharing.

Hey, here’s something fun: Office Max (at their counters) is giving away FREE posters of one of your favorite shots (24×36). Pick up the coupon there. You can enlarge your family!

Shhhhhh, Mary! Don’t say “enlarge your family” too loud. We’re trying to stop at two kids–that’s all we can handle.

You don’t wear that hat at church, do you? I’ll bet you do, and you sit towards the front. That’s why I carry heavy-duty rubber bands. Wrap one or two around a sturdy hymnal and you got yourself a handy-dandy hat-remover.

Please take this as a compliment, but I hope you guys have more kids.

It is a nice idea to see pictures of the people whose thoughts I read daily. Like putting a brain with a face.

Such a sweet family, too!

It’s a lovely family portrait! And my goodness, you all look so young – I supposed that I thought the picture you normally post was an older one and now you were gray and wise – guess we’ll just have to stop short of gray.

I would imagine your wife knew which substantive you meant – and what a lovely complement – to be spiritually substantive.

Craver, I agree-with two kids, you each have one, but at three-you’re officially out numbered!! Then, it’s a whole new ballgame!

Ahh, maybe that’s a deterence….

Great family pic, Mark! I feel inspired to do the same….

Did Jesus wear that red hat?

13 Marcus June 10, 2007 at 9:06 am

Eve, consider yourself tagged then! I’m not good at tagging folks with memes, but I’d love to see your family.

That goes for the rest of you…

Craver and Mark, sadly I must confess to wearing the hat in church. It is the staple costume feature of a recurring character I created for the children’s program… named Captain Starbucks Bumblemonkey.

Bumblemonkey made his first appearance when he abducted the lady announcing our new childrens’ program on Wednesday nights. I tied her up and everything. The kids loved it.

My favorite Bumblemonkey skit is the Five Minute Exodus (with Pirates).

Jesus didn’t wear a hat in the Christmas pageant, thank goodness. I did wear a nasty crown of thorns at one point though.

Fredricksburg! Now I have a picture and a geographic location. I’d stalk, but it’s too far to swim. Great looking family. I think it’s one thing that it’s OK to say you’re proud of. :)

Craver, your rubberband/hymnal comment cracked me up and inspired a post to boot. Really? You were quiet as a kid? I’m still not seeing it.

15 Eve Nielsen June 10, 2007 at 2:24 pm

I’m with you, Stacy-I can’t picture Craver as quiet either. My sister was “quiet” but only because she knew how to be quiet and good when my folks were around :)

Mark-I’ve posted!!!

Ahh yes… the adventures of Captain Bumblemonkey. That’s good stuff, man! I enjoyed it.

Mark – it is great to see your face and your beautiful family! I love the costumes.
