It’s late. My kids are in bed. My wife is still in a corset pretending to be Gwendolyn from The Importance of Being Earnest.
And I wanted to play around with an interesting little widget I saw on ProBlogger this morning. AdaptiveBlue’s SmartLinks. They’re apparently using it or experimenting using it to promote their b5media blog network. Since that network is one of the models I’m following for HighCallingBlogs.com, I took note. At this point only 10 out of nearly 300 b5media blogs are showing up in the smartlink badge. I’ll be curious to see where they go with it.
So that’s the thing in my sidebar that may or may not become a community tool for HighCallingBlogs.com.
HighCallingBlogs, meet AdaptiveBlue. AdaptiveBlue, meet us. Maybe we’ll be fast friends. Maybe we’ll chat about the weather and move on. Who knows.

Hello from AdaptiveBlue! It’s a pleasure to meet you HighCallingBlogs - hopefully our friendship grows beyond just idle chit chat about the weather (click the link attached to my name to see our views on users vs. friends)
Marcus, if you ever need help with our products or have some feedback (we love feedback) please feel free to drop me an email.
If you want help setting up a sidebar widget for specific blogs I’d be happy to walk you through the process.
Anyway, hope you’re well and looking forward to a long and healthy friendship
Fraser, thanks for the impressively quick response! That was a bit of a test for you, actually.
We’ve been exploring a lot of widgets over the past few months, and yours looks very very promising.
Okay, it’s not late. And no one here is in a corset, pretending to be any Shakespearean character. But. But I am puzzled. Can you explain what this widget really does (I tried looking briefly)… I’m assuming it has nothing to do with garments, over or under.
Hi L.L. Barkat, what you’re seeing in the post are actually two of our products: SmartLinks and then SmartLink Widgets.
SmartLinks are a blog plug-in that automatically analyzes links and understands when links are about objects: music, movies, books, etc. When the link is about an object it pulls the best information for the object from around the web directly to the website making it available for the reader.
In Marcus’ post above he included a link to Amazon and our plug-in recognized that it was actually a link to a book and has pulled together the best information about the specific book directly to the page (click on the blue SmartLink icon next to the link)
The second product is the SmartLink Widget, which can be made for a number of objects and displayed on sidebars. Each item in the widget includes a SmartLink so that readers can instantly find out more information about the item. So in the example of the b5 media widget, readers can click on the SmartLink for a specific blog and instantly find out all about the blog - title, description, author, etc.
Cool stuff, no? Let me know if I can help with anything!
Wow, thanks for taking that question for me, Fraser! I’m headed over to your booth right now.
Looking forward to learning more about this thing.
