It’s official. I’m going to the American Christian Fiction Writer’s Conference. (My work isn’t paying for this one either.)Â And because lists are fun, here are four reasons why I’m excited:
1) Meet with at least one Editor who is willing to talk. Usually editors avoid my pitch even when I’m not pitching! The last big editor I tried to talk to at a conference gave me the weakest limp-wristed hand shake and looked at the wall over my shoulder when he said, “Hi, nice to meet you.” Yeah right. That jerk’s body language spoke volumes. I’m guessing editors will expect my pitch at this conference, even if I don’t give one.
2) Meet at least one Agent who is willing to talk. To these people, I’m normally part of the slush pile–reduced to the metaphor of old, muddy snow. I’m looking forward to being a name and a face, rather than a fraction of an inch in a large stack.
3)Â Late night chats give the opportunity to mingle with editors and agents and other writers.
4) Good grief. That schedule is jam packed with good stuff.
I’m excited. Is anyone else going?
