Modernism Imposes Order with Arrogance and Presumption

broken mirrorModernism is when the mirror began to crack. If there is any hope of understanding our current world of broken mirrors, we need to remember why the mirror cracked to begin with.

A Parent Shares Good Stories from Real Life

good christian parenting bookI’ve been needing to start reviewing books here. My friend, Mary DeMuth (aka Relevant Girl), finally pushed me into it by giving me an ARC of her newest book, Authentic Parenting in a Postmodern Culture.

(ARC is publisher’s jargon for Advanced Reading Copy.)

This book is really good. No kidding. It approaches parenting on four fronts. I’ll share the four fronts over the next few weeks so as to participate in her blog tour with several successive wave of folks. And to keep this post to a bloggy length.

First, Mary teaches about parenting with…

God’s Groceryman

A friend of mine just sent me this fantastic article from Time magazine about my boss, Howard Butt, Jr. It’s a rare thing to see a man devote his entire life to the same vision. Mr. Butt did.

Go read God’s Groceryman. (It’s only 500 words.)

If you’re feeling a little down about your work, you especially need to go read it.

Godzilla-Jesus Is Not the Next Big Thing

But Bob Smietana over at Christianity Today says too many Christian publishers are Looking for the Next Big Thing. They posted this article last week, but if you haven’t read it yet, be sure to go check it out.

He writes, “In recent years, Christian publishing has enjoyed a string of Godzilla-sized hits—starting with the Left Behind series (with sales of more than 60 million copies), followed by The Prayer of Jabez (more than 9 million sold), and then The Purpose-Driven Life.”

(If I have time later, I’ll try to photoshop a Godzilla-Jesus movie poster. Or would that be sacrilegious?)

PS. I’m back from vacation! I’ll make the blog rounds soon.

Will Social Media Become a Greek Tragedy?

toddler.jpgBlogs are toddlers now. Have you noticed? Some of us have been weaned. Others are starting to give up our pacifiers. A few are potty trained and using complex sentences and obeying the rules of the house.Of course, we all still pull the dog’s tail on occasion. And we still find ourselves sitting in the time out chair a lot.

But soon, very soon, Mommy and Daddy Media are going to have to acknowledge our existence.

Or like Oedipus we’re going to tear them pieces one day in a rage when they refuse to let us share the road. Or like Orestes, we’re going to pull out a sword and chop mom up.

2 Big Limitations to Social Media

I’m getting a little tired of the ridiculous expectations and social media hype bloggers are setting for businesses.
