4 Reasons I’m Excited about the Christian Fiction Writer’s Conference

It’s official. I’m going to the American Christian Fiction Writer’s Conference. (My work isn’t paying for this one either.)  And because lists are fun, here are four reasons why I’m excited:

1) Meet with at least one Editor who is willing to talk. Usually editors avoid my pitch even when I’m not pitching! The last big editor I tried to talk to at a conference gave me the weakest limp-wristed hand shake and looked at the wall over my shoulder when he said, “Hi, nice to meet you.” Yeah right. That jerk’s body language spoke volumes. I’m guessing editors will expect my pitch at this conference, even if I don’t give one.

2) Meet at least one Agent who is willing to talk. To these people, I’m normally part of the slush pile–reduced to the metaphor of old, muddy snow. I’m looking forward to being a name and a face, rather than a fraction of an inch in a large stack.

3)  Late night chats give the opportunity to mingle with editors and agents and other writers.

4) Good grief. That schedule is jam packed with good stuff.

I’m excited. Is anyone else going?

Not going, but I’ll enjoy hearing about your time.

I’ll do my best to report back to everyone via the blog–if I take notes on my laptop, that will probably help.

I’ll be there, and I’ll be cheering for good opportunities for you!

No pressure. In fact, maybe you should just go with a hat and sunglasses and forget the laptop. The high points will stay with you, and that’s all you want anyway in the end.

I’m not going, but I’ll also be looking forward to the reports. Maybe you could practice your pitch with a Good Word Editing podcast! We’ll all listen — though most of us probably can’t publish your book.

when is this conference so we will at least know when to pray?

Mary, you and I have to have coffee.

L.L., I don’t own any sunglasses. But that’s a good idea to just take notes in my journal. The laptop always seems too clunky and somber somehow. The problem is taking the time to reflect upon my return. I’ll just need you all to hold me accountable for that.

Charity, did I hear you right? Are you asking for another podcast?? I can do that. Give me a week or so.

Susan, the conference is Sept. 20-23, but I covet your prayers any time you think of me! I will remember you all as well.
