12 things I’ve learned through social media and blogging

by Marcus on January 19, 2009

This blog is titled “Good Word Editing” as if you can expect regular editing advice or something. But really, it’s must my home base. The place where an editor can set aside all ulterior motives, shrug off the writing guidelines and public personas, and just shoot from the hip.

Not that I plan to own a gun, much to the chagrin of my fellow Kerrvillites and Texans.

This blog is a place for me to process. Sometimes I process things I’m thinking about editing in general. Sometimes I share specifics about editing. More often, I share about trends in publishing in general–especially trends in online publishing.

I edit the content of websites after all. Certainly, I do other kinds of editing that I don’t discuss much, but the bulk of what I can discuss happens online.

And my friend Robert Hruzek of Middle Zone Musings has compiled 12 of my best blog posts, 12 moments of sincere and helpful reflection. Most of it has substance. One or two posts are just fun. You can read a little bit about all twelve of them over at his site.

Blogging is a great place to process, yes. On days like yesterday, I'm extra thankful that I blog.

Hey, love these titles. You really have a way with titles.

Thanks for the complement on the titles, LL. Part of the reason it appears I have a way with titles is that I didn't choose to list any of the posts that had bad titles…

How come your links aren't working? (At least the three I tried clicking.)

Funny, on the titles. I stand by my opinion though.

Yes, Marcus. A big part of the reason I blog is to process thoughts I'm working on. And one of the nice things about blogging for me is that while I do try to present a full, coherent post pressing one point- generally speaking, I don't have to think it need be ready to be published. In other words, it's a work in process. But I guess that would be related to processing thoughts, as for example I was doing on my recent post on theistic evolution.

Yes, good titles. I'll try one.

I had the same problem L.L. had when clicking links.

Hi Marcus. I agree, good processing venue. Somehow, it totally escaped me that you had your own blog (besides that of High Calling)! Glad to get your tweet which informed me otherwise!

I finally fixed the links. Thanks for pointing it out Ted.

Lorrie, this blog is my play ground. But I always leave my highcallingblogs.com landing page as the trackback when I comment. So it's understandable. Glad you finally found me here!
